The Value of Videos

It is literally becoming impossible to ignore the impact - and importance - that videos are having on the internet, and the world of internet marketing is no different!

Many of the “top dogs” of internet marketing have warned that 2007 will mark the year that online videos begin their real importance in making money online and driving traffic to your website. It’s the world of Web 2.0…and we need to realize that more now than ever.

I’ll give you a quick example of the real power of online video…but I’m going to move into another business entirely for this demonstration. It’s my OTHER love…the business of music.

You may not have heard of a band by the name of OK GO. Then again, maybe you have…even if you weren’t trying. That’s because the band became a study in the digital age - whether it was intentional or not.

A number of months ago, the band released a video that became so popular on the web that the band watched their latest album sales (which had been released about a year earlier) begin to climb, and climb, and CLIMB. According to the sales tracking website HitsDailyDouble:

Featuring the band performing a synchronized treadmill routine in a gym, “Here It Goes Again, a track from the band’s Oh No album, released almost a year ago, the video has been viewed a staggering 2 million times on YouTube, earning monthly honors as Most Viewed, Top Favorites and Most Discussed Music Video, as well as #10 Most Linked All Time and #25 Most Viewed Music Video of all time on the popular site. Technorati has rated the video as one of the most popular linked by blogs.

Capitol Records President Andy Slater got off the treadmill long enough to state: “OK Go’s current success is a grass-roots phenomenon of the digital age. It is the product of long-term artist development for a credible, smart band that is connecting with fans the old-fashioned way through non-stop touring, and the new-fashioned way—through clever, trailblazing use of new media. Now, if only I could master the moves, I’d submit my own video to YouTube.”

Have you seen the video? If not, check it out right here…it’s for the song “Here It Goes Again”:

ok go

After the success of this video online, the band recognized that viral videos cannot be underestimated. So they stayed with what works, and just released another video - for another song - on the same album. Notice any similarities?

OK Go - Do What You Want (Wallpaper Version)

And to add one more “piece to the puzzle”…the video above, for the song “Do What You Want”, was actually the SECOND video for the song. The first video can be seen below. You’ll notice, while it’s a well-done video, it was missing a certain “formula” that brought them the success of “Here It Goes Again”.

OK Go - "Do What You Want"

So why am I bringing music into this discussion? What does OK GO have to do with your internet marketing business? Think about it…If a video can drive ALBUM SALES, just imagine what they can do for driving traffic to your website.

If you want to compete in any business, you have to be willing to adjust and adapt to current trends and technology. Online video IS where the success is at in 2007. Do what you can to make sure you take advantage of it.

How to Purchase Only QUALITY Information Products Online!

Posted in Recommended by Brett on the January 17th, 2007
 Digg This! |  del.icio.us |  Technorati

Here's my latest article! As always, please feel free to reprint it, unaltered. Let me know what you think about the article, especially if you choose to reprint it anywhere! Thanks so much!
There’s something amazing about the rise of information products on the internet. We have become content to simply shell out our hard-earned cash in return for something we can’t hold or touch.

It’s not delivered to our door. We don’t sign for any packages. Nothing! We simply hit the “Pay Now button, and within seconds we have our purchase in our email inbox. It really is amazing.

But of course, there are positive aspects of this exchange. Obviously we’ve decided that the “pluses outweigh the “minuses in this game of information buying on the internet. That’s why it has become so popular.

But there still is one major issue with purchasing information products online. It’s an issue that nobody has addressed effectively, yet there has been no real public outcry about its absence.

In the “real world, we have groups like Consumer Reports to help us make smart purchasing decisions. Before we buy a product, we turn to such groups to learn which products are the “real deal and which are just wastes of money. But why hasn’t there been an outcry for such a group online? For now, let’s learn how to spot a “quality product from a “flop.

Before you purchase an information product or a new piece of software online…

1. Pay attention to reputation – If you’ve just heard about the latest “amazing ebook, hot off the presses, immediately ask yourself: “Who is the author? If you’ve never heard of the author, be wary of his or her expertise. Search the author’s name on Google. Visit his or her other websites. Is this the author’s first ebook? What is the author’s reputation? These are just some of the questions that you’ll want to ask yourself before hitting that “Pay Now button!

2. Seek out the advice of peers – Visit the Forums in your particular niche. Most forums have a section where you can seek out advice from other people who may have purchased this new ebook. Ask them what they thought of the product. Was it worth the money? Is it good for beginners? Just don’t ask them to “summarize the book for you. They paid good money for the information, so you’ll have to do the same to learn the in-depth details of the book. Hey…you can even ask opinions on the author him/herself! Make use of these resources – they are invaluable.

3. Be wary of falling into the “hype products – Maybe you’ve been itching to sign up this great new membership site because it’s “all the rage. Sometimes, info products that are “hot are not exactly “quality. I’ve purchased products based on popularity alone, only to find the markets flooded with people who purchased the same book and is using the same techniques taught by the author. When this happens, the information inside becomes practically useless. Of course this is not always the case, but always beware of the “hot new product, especially if everyone seems to be promoting it!

4. Seek out unsolicited, unbiased reviews of the product – Again, this can be extremely difficult to achieve. There are very few resources, with the exception of a brand new service called RatingsHub, where you can find such unbiased, user-submitted reviews. When you do find a review for a product, try to determine if the reviewer has any “interest in reviewing the product. If a “review contains ANY affiliate links inside it, you can simply consider it flawed. The reviewer may be trying to sway your opinion in order to get you to purchase the product through his or her affiliate link, therefore making them money. Always seek out unbiased, user-submitted reviews.

If you take these simple steps before purchasing another information product, you can ensure that every purchase you make is a smart one, and that you never hit that “Pay Now button…only to “Regret Later!

Brett Laffin is an internet entrepreneur and is currently working with David Vallieres on a brand new website called RatingsHub. At RatingsHub, you can read user-submitted reviews of many information products available online, with no affiliate links, advertisements, or other distractions! Read the reviews, or write one of your own! Check out RatingsHub at http://www.money2bmade.com/reviews

The Most Amazing Idea I’ve Seen in a LONG Time

Have I got a recommendation for you today…

I’ve just finished reading a free ebook called “The Ultimate SuperTip” by Harvey Segal, and my head is still spinning. You know that feeling you get when you read something super-exciting, and it gives you that “unstoppable” feeling inside??

Right now, that is exactly what I’m feeling.

This ebook - this FREE ebook - is quite possibly the most exciting thing I’ve reading in years…and I purchase a LOT of info products!!

If you’re dying to see this for yourself, then just click here to download your very own free copy. You don’t even have to enter your email address…Harvey is literally GIVING THIS THING AWAY!

Inside “The Ultimate SuperTip”, Harvey discusses the correct way to make money online, and proceeds to buck every bit of “conventional wisdom” with the following statement:

“…I have said GOODBYE to Search Engines”

Harvey discusses why he no longer relies on Google to drive traffic to his site, and shows you exactly what methods he uses to remain one of the most successful “gurus” on the internet!

But the real magic in this book lies in its final chapter…It’s an idea that will absolutely BLOW YOU AWAY. I guarantee it. I’m STILL breathless. Just don’t read ahead to find the Ultimate SuperTip…it really would ruin the power of it. ;-)

It’s a completely free download, but is worth THOUSANDS, in my opinion. He doesn’t even collect your email address. It’s amazing in every aspect. Check it out!

Forecasting the Future for Success!

I’ve always believed in the importance of long-term vision in the field of marketing and business. If you don’t prepare for the future, you will quickly become obsolete.

My favorite example of this idea is the iPod.

When Apple first released the iPod - to rave reviews - it seemed that the company had a winner on its hands. But even though all the signs pointed to success for the product, there was no way to truly predict the massive market that came to life over the following months. Or maybe there was.

When you go to the iPod section of a store such as Best Buy or Circuit City, you should take note of one main point: the iPod has its own section! There, you can purchase not only the iPod itself, but also iPod holders, Car adapters, iPod Docking bases, and the list goes on. But what is truly amazing about the whole thing is that most of these “accessory” products are made by other companies!

This tells you that these companies were able to see the future when it came to the iPod. They saw a market growing by leaps and bounds, and invested their time and resources to create products that responded to the growing demand of iPod users.

This example ties into all other aspects of business as well. As it is said - he who can respond to the needs of others with a product or service to satisfy their needs will find success.

So how can you forecast the future like these companies did with the iPod? Well, it’s not easy…but there are at least some ideas that you should be entertaining, with respect to future marketing opportunities.

If you can recognize the following trends, I believe that you will be setting yourself up for success in the years to come:

  • 1. Baby Boomers are aging
  • - There were approximately 78.2 million Baby Boomers as of July 1, 2005. These “Boomers” are slowly beginning to age, and as a result, a large portion of our country will become elderly all at once. I believe that those people who prepare for this change in demographic will find the most success in the future. These Boomers will need retirement services, health services, home care services, financial services, and so much more! Start the think about this now…because the future will be here before you know it! For more information on this topic, visit http://www.aginghipsters.com/!

  • 2. The Internet is not a fad
  • - I think it’s a safe bet: the internet isn’t going anywhere. In fact, it continues to grow. And grow. And grow! The rise of websites such as Myspace.com and Flickr.com, it continues to evolve as well! In fact, this new wave of internet website has earned its own title: Web 2.0! User-developed content is the current king of the web…and will remain on top for the foreseeable future. That is why it is so important to get up to speed on the subject…or else risk being left in the digital dust. ;-)

These are two of the biggest trends that we can be *relatively* safe in predicting for the future. Take these trends and start brainstorming. What internet products can you sell to these markets? Could you create your own product to sell to them? What kind of websites will help the people in these markets in the near future?

If you think ahead, you’ll eventually be ahead. More on this topic coming soon!

    Tag! You’re It! (Part II)

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! Looking forward, now, to the NEW YEAR! :)

In my attempt to get this blog up-to-speed and optimized for 2007, I have finally taken the time to add a TAG feature.

You’ll notice at the bottom of each post, from here on out, will include a list of “tags” - basically a list of short “buzzwords” to help organize each post and make them more “search-friendly”.

I actually made use of an awesome WordPress plugin called Ultimate Tag Warrior. So far, so good! If you have a blog of your own (and you should!), look into using tags. This free plugin will help simplify the process…which is ALWAYS a good thing.

Have You Made YOUR Lens Yet?

I recently came to learn about a website called Squidoo.com. This site offers something brand new to the internet scene…and they call it a “Lens”.

    Squidoo Logo

Now, a lens can be a bit confusing. It took me a little while to understand the point of a lens, and how it could be useful to ANYONE. But soon I learned the real power behind these “mini web pages”, and how they can help almost any website to gain more traffic.

You see, a lens is simply a “compact how-to guide”. It puts everything you know about a topic onto one web page, and helps to guide the reader to more information on the topic.

For example, I just created a lens of my very own. It’s about a topic I like to continuously learn more and more about - How to Make Money Online! I will constantly be updating this lens with new ideas, techniques, and resources…and will include a link back to this blog in the midst of the advice. Maybe I’ll get a few new visitors to my blog, but regardless, it’s a great way to get your name out there! Hey - maybe you’ve found this little blog through Squidoo. If so, my point has been proven! :)

Even if there’s no “surge” in traffic, there’s always the extra link pointing back to my website out on the internet. That’s always a plus.

If you’d like to learn more about Squidoo, check them out here: Squidoo.com!

John Reese Is At It Again!

Don’t know if you’ve heard, but the internet marketing “master”, John Reese, has been busy working on his brand new project for 2007 - Income.com. (Only John could obtain a domain name like that, huh? I wonder what it cost him for the domain alone…)

    Income.com

For anyone who doesn’t know who John Reese is, he made internet marketing history on August 14, 2004, when he made over $1,000,000 in 24 hours. You can read more about it at MillionDollarDay.com.

This time, Reese is focused on teaching and training anyone who is looking to make money online - and the site is free to join! I’m not sure yet how John will make his money from the site, but suspect it will have a membership fee of some sort, if you want to upgrade to a “premium” version…but that is complete speculation on my part. It’ll be interesting to see what John has up his sleeve with Income.com, but I would definitely recommend that you keep your eyes peeled for the launch of the site.

John is one of the “gurus” who really know what they are talking about. Be sure to pay attention!
